Violence Risk Assessment Ensures Safety AND Student Success

A private college that keeps TNG on retainer for a variety of needs related to Title IX called one day in need of a Violence Risk Assessment on a suicidal student whom it believe it would need to suspend. The college’s staff had turned over, leaving the campus without an internal expert who was proficient, and a seemingly high-risk case had arisen. Within days, TNG had deployed an expert, met with the student and the student’s parents, and using TNG’s proprietary assessment tools was able to provide the college with an understanding of the risk factors and best ways to work with the student to ensure long-term safety and success. The student was not suspended and two years later, the student graduated without incident and with honors.

A Charter School Association Was Worried About the Title IX Regulations

An association of charter schools had engaged TNG for all of its members’ investigation needs. When the 2020 Title IX regulations were released in May of 2020, the association contacted TNG with concern about how the new regulations would impact on the investigation of complaints. TNG worked to reassure the client that by the end of April, in addition to all the Title IX training they had received previously, all forty (40) of TNG’s professional investigators would have a two-day training on the new regulations, how they impact on investigations, and best practices moving forward. The client was reassured. Few firms can boast the advantages of being both leading practitioners and trainers in the Title IX space. This is a key TNG advantage.

NJCAA Chooses TNG in a Meeting of the Acronyms!

njcaa logo The National Junior College Athletics Association has partnered with TNG as its preferred provider for all the Title IX and risk management-related training needs of its 600-member athletic departments. TNG has been delivering a series of standard and custom trainings to members and groups of members, giving them cutting edge content and techniques to ensure programmatic excellence. When the coaches have an issue, they know TNG is but a phone call away.

Serving as Hearing Panelists for Formal Title IX Complaints

A private college attended a mock hearing training that showed what hearings would look like under the 2020 Title IX regulations. Coming out of that training, the college contacted TNG to say that they had no one on staff who could chair such a hearing, and they had admired the way the TNG consultants managed the hearing during the mock event. As a result, TNG and the client signed a flat-fee agreement so that TNG experts would be on-call whenever the college needed a hearing panel chair. Over the course of the fall 2020 semester, the client used TNG to chair two hearings, and had the reassurance of having a knowledgeable, experienced, steady hand as the kinks in new procedures and regulations were worked out.

A Blowup Becomes a Model for Reform

A state university was experiencing a complete implosion of an academic department based on infighting and a highly politicized history of fractiousness. The university considered the department to be at risk of failure and had tried everything. But, two divided and deeply ingrained power structures resisted all efforts at reform. TNG conducted a two-stage process, first engaging in surveying and focus groups to allow for anonymous reporting and a true assessment of the root causes of the problems. Based on an understanding of the toxic dynamics, TNG then made recommendations for personnel changes and for mediation. TNG brought in a skilled mediation capacity, and worked for two months to broker peace, identify shared goals, ensure a lasting détente, and get the department working as a team. Four years later, the reform efforts have been sustained by new leadership, and the department remains functional.
