"One person of integrity can make a difference." Elie Wiesel
Max Sullivan is a Consultant at TNG with expertise in student conduct, academic integrity, Title IX, risk management, and restorative justice. He specializes in policy development, investigations, case management, and behavioral interventions that strengthen campus safety systems.
Sullivan trains and consults on reframing masculinity, preventative education, and student support strategies within college conduct systems. He presents at national and regional conferences on restorative pathways for men who engage in high-risk behaviors, promoting self-authorship and a sense of belonging.
Before joining TNG, Sullivan served as Executive Director of Student Accountability, Safety, and Restorative Practices and Title IX Co-Coordinator at the University of Mount Union. In that role, he was the primary Title IX decision-maker and served on the CARE team. He previously worked in student conduct and residence life at the University of Dayton, where he conducted Title IX investigations and served as a decision-maker on complaints involving hazing in athletics and student organizations.
Sullivan’s work is grounded in equity, accountability, and inclusive decision-making. His focus lies in driving policy reform and promoting alternatives to traditional sanctions, with an emphasis on rehabilitation and community reintegration. Collaborating with institutions, he develops student-centered resolution processes that replace punitive measures, particularly in areas like consent, dating, and healthy relationships. Notably, he co-authored an article in the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education titled “Infusing Restorative Justice Practices into College Student Conduct Practices,” highlighting his commitment to restorative approaches in higher education.
He earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton, where his dissertation focused on Restorative Justice as a Tool to Support Men Engaging in High-Risk Behavior With Self-Authorship and Sense of Belonging. He also holds an M.S.E. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Dayton and a B.A. in Early Childhood Education from Wittenberg University.
He has completed extensive training with the Association of Student Conduct Administration (ASCA)’s Gehring Academy in restorative justice and the Dayton Mediation Center in mediation, as well as a training program led by David Karp of the National Center on Restorative Justice. He is also certified in Green Dot Bystander Intervention and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).
Sullivan lives in San Diego, California, with his wife, dog, and two cats.
