This seminar provides participants with an overview of the most common approaches to alcohol and other drug (AOD) educational programming at colleges and universities and the effectiveness of those programs based on current research.
Participants will review a rubric of existing AOD education programs, which highlights differences in cost, format, target audience(s), and more. A TNG expert consultant will discuss the differences between education, prevention, and intervention, the benefits of implementing a comprehensive model, how to customize content for each audience, and the importance of early and ongoing efforts using a variety of approaches.
Whether creating a new program from scratch, building from existing resources, or selecting a commercial vendor, TNG’s expert consultant will help the institution determine the option(s) best suited for its campus/culture.
Learning Outcomes:
- Participants will learn how to identify various models their campus might explore in a new or revamped initiative
- Participants will learn how to analyze existing approaches to determine how costs may impact the design of their program
- Participants will learn options for customizing their training for various audiences
- Participants will understand the differences between education, prevention, and intervention and how best to focus the institution’s efforts on those differences
