Katherine Weathers, J.D., USCG CDR (Ret.)

Senior Consultant, TNG; Senior Resolution Officer, FAIR Center

Katherine Weathers has extensive expertise in Title IX, equal opportunity compliance, and accessibility initiatives in higher education. Before her nearly 15 years in this field, she built an impressive 22-year career in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring with the rank of Commander.

Before joining TNG, she served as Assistant Director in the EEO/Title IX Office and Senior Deputy Title IX Coordinator at Auburn University, where she led university-wide compliance efforts. In this role, she oversaw investigations of sexual misconduct, addressed reports of civil rights discrimination, and managed employee issues related to Title VII, ADA, and religious accommodations. She also chaired Auburn’s Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Task Force and served on the university’s threat assessment team. Earlier in her higher education career, Weathers was the Director of Student Conduct at Saint Louis University. In this role, she chaired Title IX hearings, adjudicated cases of academic dishonesty, and served as a member of the Behavioral Concerns Committee.

In addition to her military service as a Marine Casualty Investigating Officer, Judge Advocate General (JAG)officer, defense attorney, and Chief of Claims and Litigation, Weathers also worked with the U.S. Attorney’s Office on major cases. She collaborated with the Canadian Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and other agencies on maritime environmental initiatives, including drafting regulations to prevent the spread of invasive species through ballast water. Notably, she was the second woman in Coast Guard and Navy history to graduate from the Rescue Swimmer School, and she chaired a task force for the Defense Advisory Committee on Women in the Services (DACOWITS) to evaluate barriers to women in military training and advancement.

Her consulting style reflects her investigative background and legal training. She approaches cases with an unbiased lens, remaining open to individuals’ perspectives. As an investigator and a decision-maker, she views her work as assembling the pieces of a puzzle to uncover the complete story. In training, she draws on extensive case studies and examples from both her higher education and military experience, providing practical lessons that resonate with participants.

Weathers earned her J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law, where she clerked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri and the Missouri Court of Appeals. Weathers began her academic journey at Saint Louis Community College-Meramec, where she earned her associate’s degree, before completing dual bachelor’s degrees in Philosophy and Political Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is admitted to practice law in the state of Missouri and the U.S. Supreme Court.

She resides in Auburn, Alabama, with her husband and two dogs. A St. Louisan at heart, she enjoys visiting her two adult children and spending time with family in Colorado. She actively contributes to her community by volunteering with the Eastern Alabama Food Bank and leading a youth swim program for the Boys and Girls Club of Auburn that she founded four years ago. Through this initiative, she recruits fellow Master Swimmers who teach children to swim every summer. An avid swimmer and outdoor enthusiast, she also enjoys cooking, mountain biking, and snow sports.
